Working in the garden

Our Practices

We prioritize health and sustainability. With that being said, we do not use any toxic chemical fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides.

Weeds

For weeds we use hard work and lots of mulch. The mulch also helps with water retention and ground cover, helping the microbiome of the soil stay healthy.

Pests

For pests we use hand removal and, if necessary, one of the following organically approved items: diatomaceous earth, neem oil, or insecticidal soap.

Plant health

For bacterial or fungal infections on our plants we first hand-trim off infected leaves, disposing of them in bags away from crops. If necessary we use one of the following organically approved items: copper fungicide, neem oil, a hydrogen peroxide mix, or a raw milk mix.

Irrigation

For irrigation we use pond water, into which we mix a well-rounded, organically approved fertilizer along with microbes โ€” both to give plants a boost and, over the long term, to break down our heavy clay soil.

Fertilizer

For fertilizer we use a compost blend from Blue Bird Compost.
